Banana

Banana

The smell of the Banana in the oven is wafting throughout the kitchen as I type this.

I have started to bake Banana cake on a semi regular basis, Not only do I find it therapeutic but it also gives me a use for my stockpile of overripe Bananas that I have in the freezer. I have a bad habit of buying a bunch, eating one on the day of said purchase and then subsequently forgetting about them.

This ensures the occasional discovery of a group of soft black smelly and vaguely cylindrical objects that are squidgy to the touch and have a questionable aroma. As soon as each discovery is made, I make an effort to round them up and through them into very bottom of the deep abyss that constitutes the chest freezer in the kitchen where they enter a state of suspended animation amongst the half eaten packets of Quorn Mince and the odd Chicken Kiev.

After a prolonged period of time which could range from anywhere from a a few months to a year they are lifted from their wintry tomb, defrosted in the microwave and  given a new lease on life.

First Post!

Good Evening

Welcome to my new blog!

Well, its not actually  a new blog.

I created this blogger account ( I swear this place used to be called blog spot!)during a brief stint (five whole weeks!) of unemployment in early 2010. I can remember this period of time quite vividly   - it was during the summer around February and the following things happened:

Mount Eden Tennis Courts
  • I Ate lots of tinned foods
  • Played tennis every day at the asphalt courts on Bellevue Road in  Mt.Eden  - I recall very fondly meeting my best friend Dan most afternoons after work where sometimes we played so long it would be a real struggle to see the ball due to it getting dark (this was daylight saving time too !) later on we found the switch to the floodlights which proved to be very useful for playing after it got dark outside.
  • Sleeping in and taking several naps  - the frequency off the naps got quite intense to the point that I started to get sleep paralysis which is a really bad time.
  • Chat roulette - this was quite a popular past time back then ( I never once was rude on it honest!) If you pressed next enough you could find a half decent looking american uni student girl who was equally as bored and would enjoy asking you questions about New Zealand.I someone also drew a picture of me via chat roulette  - I will post the picture here. It was kind of strange.
  • Tried to grow a beard and didn't get past the itchy stage. Still never have made it past the itchy stage in subsequent attempts
  • Had a lime flavored thick shake from McDonalds - have never had one since. I had never had one before because I believed - and still believe that there is something unnatural about a citrus flavoured dairy beverage. I am trying to think of an analogy to describe this but am drawing blanks. I mean i am more than happy to combine Greek Yogurt and fruit salad which constitutes at least a 1/4th (quarter) of citrus fruits.
  • Drove to Hamilton which is a two hour drive from where I was living at the time to visit an old high school buddy. Hamilton is a shit hole
  • The Chat roulette portrait
  • Oh I also created this blog. the URL - http://gotmoresoulthanasockwithahole.blogspot.co.uk/  - 'Got more soul than a sock with a hole' is a line in a song from the song Rhinestone Cowboy by a rapper called DOOM. he used to be known as MF DOOM before dropping the MF. His real name is Daniel and he lives in London at the moment . Those are the only similarities we share. Sleep is the cousin of death is a line in a song called NY state of mind by a rapper called Nas. I have nothing in common with him. Anyway, I created one post which was subsequently deleted. It was about a new car that had recently been released , the Dodge Challenger. This was a model that Dodge had re-introduced after a long hiatus as part of a muscle car revival in the US which included offerings from other manufacturers such as Ford and Chrysler. It was a pretty cringe worthy attempt at automotive journalism that I would prefer to forget about.
I have revived this blog at the insistence of my flatmate Tai Robb, Primarily as a means of rating incessantly on topics including the following but by no means exclusive to:

  • The unavailability of fiber optic broadband in Rotherhithe and the overall Docklands area
  • Public Transport
  • New Zealand/International Politics
  • Current Affairs
  •  Technology
  • General Observations about life
  • Jokes
Ranting is something I tend to do more and more regularly and am excited about the prospect of being able to archive these thoughts in a digital format. I plan to use this material for my stand up comedy debut which will happen in approximately four months in a shitty pub somewhere in London during open mic night .

other topics that I find interesting
  • Music
  • Cars
  • Fitness
Regards,

Daniel
